Fairs and crowds
The Phalgun fair at Khatu, usually in February or March, draws very large crowds for several days, as does Hanuman Jayanti at Salasar; dates are announced each year. A weekday visit outside fair time makes darshan much easier.
Rajasthan · 2 days / 1 night
Two much-visited temples lie north-west of Jaipur: Khatu Shyam ji in Sikar district and Salasar Balaji in Churu district. This plan gives you darshan (seeing the deity at a temple) at both, with a night in Salasar so that elders are not rushed. Every day can be changed.

Day by day
A sample plan — every day can be changed.
Jaipur → Khatu → Salasar · about 180 km, 4–4.5 hours plus darshan
Your driver collects you early from your home, hotel or the station in Jaipur for the drive to Khatu (about 80 km, around 2 hours). After darshan at the Khatu Shyam ji temple, where Shyam Baba is worshipped as Barbarika of the Mahabharata, continue to Salasar (about 100 km, 2–2.5 hours). In the evening, attend the aarti at Salasar Balaji, a Hanuman temple known for its idol with a beard and moustache.
Overnight: Salasar
Salasar → Jaipur · about 175 km, 3.5–4 hours
Go to the temple early for morning darshan, when queues are usually shorter, and visit the nearby Anjani Mata temple if you wish. Then drive back to Jaipur, with stops for tea and a meal on the way, to reach home, your hotel or the station by mid-afternoon.

Best time to go
You can go all year, though October to March is the most comfortable; in summer, plan darshan for the early morning or evening. Khatu is busiest on fair days, weekends and Ekadashi (the eleventh day of each lunar fortnight), and Salasar on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Good to know
The Phalgun fair at Khatu, usually in February or March, draws very large crowds for several days, as does Hanuman Jayanti at Salasar; dates are announced each year. A weekday visit outside fair time makes darshan much easier.
Both temples close for short periods around aartis and bhog (food offered to the deity), and timings change with the season, so check before you set out. Dress modestly and carry as little as possible through the queues.
Salasar has mostly dharamshalas (pilgrim rest houses) and simple hotels. For more choice, stay in Sikar, about an hour away, after the evening aarti.
Questions
The Khatu Shyam ji temple, in Sikar district, is about 80 km from Jaipur, around two hours by car. Salasar Balaji, in Churu district, is about 100 km beyond Khatu and about 175 km from Jaipur.
It is possible but makes a long day, with about 350 km of driving plus time in the queues. The two-day Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji trip, with a night in Salasar, is easier, especially with children or elders.
Yes. The overnight stop keeps each driving day to about four hours, and the car drops you as close to each temple as local rules allow. Queues are long on crowded days, so a weekday is easier for elders.
The main Khatu Shyam fair is held in the Hindu month of Phalgun, usually in February or March, around Phalgun Shukla Ekadashi. Dates are announced each year, and Khatu is very crowded for several days.
